about

REQUIEM FOR THE FUTURE - THE STORY

1) Syndemics - In 2020 a wave of chained pandemics starts and decimates the world's population. Hopelessness spreads. Economic crises are added to the effects of pandemics. Governments of the world surrender. There is no solution.

2) Aftermath - Several governments carry out a selection of human beings to live in certain underground shelters, initially devised to flee the effects of a nuclear war. The chosen ones keep the plan secret and prepare to live safe from the effects of disease. During their stay underground they receive hopeless news from the surface. Humanity has been annihilated.

3) Requiem for the future - But not everything goes as expected. Some of the chosen ones had been infected before accessing the shelters, and in most of them the diseases kill their inhabitants.

4) Algorhythmic - On the surface, ignorant of the drama of humanity, machines go ahead with their algorithms and programs, working for a world that is no longer there.

5) Machinery Inertia - One city in particular had taken the automation of daily processes further than any other. Robotic vehicles repeated the programmed routes to take and collect their owners to work and home, where smart refrigerators did the weekly shopping, delivered by drones and autonomous vehicles. The lights in the buildings were switched on and off depending on the ambient brightness. And so they would go on for years.

6) Traces of life - Only a few people have survived in the shelters. A few years later, when surface sensors indicate that it is safe to go out, survivors search for signs of activity in hopes of finding more living humans. Indeed, one point seems to continue active as if nothing had happened. The coordinates correspond to a city: Bitville.

7) Return to Bitville - A small group of people leave the shelters and head to Bitville. Upon arrival they find a deserted city, where artificial intelligence has taken the place of humanity it had to serve.

8) To the unknown mankind - A hymn to the creators of a city that no longer remembers them.
